the story of
katie + fernando
and wedding photography in Lawrence
~*~
Just as the world was falling apart last year, their story was finally coming together.
They’d known each other casually through church for a couple of years, and his kids called her Miss Katie, their Sunday school teacher. But it wasn’t until her car started acting up that his mechanical skills came in handy not only in repairing her brakes but also in providing a reason for them to see each other in a different setting – and in a different way than they had before.
I don’t usually insert myself into the story portion of a blog post, but with the bride being my best friend of 20+ years, I will make an exception in this one! And that is to brag: I happened to be the first of Katie’s friends or family to meet Fernando, in January 2020.
They were not quite officially a couple at that point, but it probably would not have surprised me to know then that they’d be married just shy of a year later. I say that because this was the first time I’d ever seen Katie return someone’s interest, and Fernando – to his credit – knew a good thing when he saw it and was already completely sold on her.
What would have surprised me a year ago was that attendance at their wedding would be limited to 10 people, who’d be required to wear medical masks. But COVID couldn’t keep them from committing to each other and celebrating their marriage at two of the most historic buildings in Lawrence – which I’d say were perfect places for such a monumental milestone in their own history.
Katie and Fernando: I felt so fortunate to be among the few who were able to share this day with you, and I can’t wait to celebrate again at your larger reception when the world finally allows for it! I also look forward to seeing how life unfolds for your new family and to capturing more moments just as wonderful as these.
