the story of
jessica + pete
and wedding photography + videography in Boonville
When they set out to plan their wedding, they knew they had quite a task ahead of them – but they didn’t anticipate the added challenge that dry weather would present when it came to turning her parents’ land into their dream venue.
My parents recently built a house that is surrounded by cedar trees, wildlife and woods. Pete and I knew we wanted to have our ceremony behind the house, in the middle of all the beautiful surroundings. Since the home was new, there was a lot to be done – and Mother Nature was not on our side.
For months we were cleaning up brush and burning it whenever conditions weren’t too dry, as well as leveling ground and planting flowers and grass. But due to the lack of rain over the summer, nothing grew. Trees were turning brown, grass was nonexistent and it didn’t look like our wedding plans would work out.
With the help of my parents, though, we came up with a plan to make everything look more appealing. We brought in mulch and gravel to cover the dirt and to create a more level seating area, planted mums to add color and incorporated an arbor – which Pete and a friend built in one afternoon – as a finishing touch.
In the end, this all made our wedding so much more memorable, because we accomplished it together as a couple with our family and friends.
Jessica and Pete: I’d say congratulations are in order not only for your newlywed status but also for your success in creating your ceremony site largely from scratch, even with the odds stacked against you. Now that all that is in the past, we hope your photos and film help you hold onto every beautiful detail of your big day!
