Pulling off a surprise proposal on a third anniversary — especially when your girlfriend knows the ring has been purchased and the question is coming — is no small feat. But somehow, he managed not only a surprise but also a sweet tribute to the start of their story when he asked her to marry him last autumn.

Kelly and Devin connected through Bumble in 2017, when she was a student at Kansas State University and he was stationed with the Army at nearby Fort Riley. During one of their first dates, they strolled through the Kansas City-area IKEA. And although this had been memorable, she didn’t suspect a thing when he suggested they stop there to look at mattresses before their anniversary dinner in November.

As it turned out, though, she left IKEA that evening not with a new mattress but with a new ring, after he popped the question in front of the store. And now, they’re looking forward to another milestone as they plan for their wedding day next May!

Kelly and Devin: I know you mentioned you’d like a tropical destination for your honeymoon, but maybe in keeping with the IKEA theme, you should consider Sweden? 😁 Seriously, though, you two were wonderful to work with.
