It all started in a high school calculus class — which was fitting since the road leading to their engagement years later was at least as complicated as higher math.

After dating during their senior year at Park Hill South, they opted to make a clean break before going to different colleges — knowing that the long distance combined with their stage in life likely wouldn’t bode well for them as a couple. They stayed friends, though, which turned out to set the stage for them to get back together their senior year of college.

But even after graduation, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for them logistically — as he got a job at Bank of America’s headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina, while she stayed in Kansas City for pharmacy school. Still, they solidified their relationship status with an engagement on an Alaskan cruise last year.

And in a twist of irony, the pandemic that hit the world this year actually simplified their world, at least in the sense that it allowed him to return to Kansas City and work remotely. Thus these high school sweethearts are finally able to enjoy an extended stretch in the same place as they prepare for their wedding next spring!

Marie and Kyle: After seeing you together, it doesn’t surprise me at all that you found your way back to each other in college and then were able to weather even more time apart. You truly seem meant-to-be, and I can’t wait to capture more of that on your big day in June!
