She still remembers the thrill of the moment an unexpected message from him lit up her phone, nearly a year after an uneventful meeting that hadn’t come close to hinting at marriage.

That first time they’d met, she’d been new at the job where he was tasked with training her. And after eight weeks, she’d been transferred to a different location – putting an end to what had never been more than a professional relationship, anyway, since they’d both been dating other people at the time.

Then 10 months later came that secretly pivotal message from that guy she remembered as cute, surprising her on her way home from work. It was simple, with wording they can’t exactly remember now, but unbeknownst to Karissa Rice and Justin Shumake held the promise to change the rest of their lives.
